Brief
Create a brochure that engages partner stakeholders and encourages investment in the Digital Inclusion project.
Concept
The core concept centred on the theme of “getting everyone online.” I explored the idea of everyday lines and connections that visually link to being “on the line” or online. Early visual directions played with the balance between physical lines in daily life — such as washing lines or absailing on the rope line — and the idea that many everyday services and activities are now accessible online with images representing these objects and services.
Outcome
I developed several visual directions and presented them to stakeholders. Initial feedback highlighted the need to make the brochure feel more rooted in Birmingham, so I incorporated local looking environments imagery.
Examples included playful visual scenarios such as:
- A young girl surfing online on top of the Selfridges building.
- An older woman “taking the plunge” online down the side of her block of flats.
Following a few rounds of presentations and discussion, the concept evolved into the final design direction: Birmingham-based imagery combined with a grid of square elements, subtly referencing pixels and digital interfaces. This approach reinforced the digital theme while keeping the visuals engaging, local, and accessible for stakeholders.
